FIDE Candidates Tournament

The most important tournament in the World Championship cycle will take place between March 28 and April 16, 2026 in Cyprus, bringing the event to a new host nation. Like in Toronto in 2024, the Women’s Candidates will be held alongside the Candidates.

2026 DATES AND HOST CITY TO BE ANNOUNCED
The winner of this 8-player double round-robin (all play all twice) becomes the Challenger for the chess crown. In case of a tie for first place after 14 rounds, the playoff determines the winner.

TERMIN UND AUSRICHTUNGSORT FÜR 2026 WERDEN NOCH BEKANNT GEGEBEN
Der Sieger dieses Doppelrundenturniers mit acht Spielern (jeder spielt zweimal gegen jeden) kämpft um die Schachkrone. Bei Punktgleichheit nach 14 Runden entscheidet der Stichkampf über den Sieger.
